Mushroom coffee. Trend or here to stay?

more Moose tales

Alternative foods and drinks as the medicine.

A journey we might not yet fully know the destination of.

Ever thought of mushrooms as an alternative for coffee? If this just made you choke on your cappuccino, keep on reading anyway. Le Botaniste, the number one plant-based resto in New York City believes food is the medicine. Perfect Moose Jack is their witness.

First, what is mushroom coffee

Nope, shroom coffee is not coffee with mushroom chunks floating in it. It's made with medicinal mushroom powders like Reishi, Lion’s Mane, Chaga... Not just a new fad - mushrooms have been a health staple in Chinese medicine for ages.

What’s the buzz about

Microdosing, once mainly linked to low-dose psychedelics, now covers non-psychoactive botanicals too, like medicinal mushrooms. The idea? To boost mood, focus, and even creativity with just a drop or two of high-potency tinctures.

Le Botaniste, New York

Le Botaniste was the first organic, plant-based and carbon-neutral restaurant in New York City. They have developed their own shroom coffee powders using lion's mane, chicory, cocoa and curcuma and combine them with steamed plant-based milks.

I’ve always been conscious of how our diets affect our health and environment,” says founder Alain Coumont. “Le Botaniste grew from a desire to offer a health-focused, eco-friendly, organic menu that is above all else delicious.

Is microdosing for everyone

Fans of microdosing report everything from increased creativity and productivity to a calmer, more positive outlook on life. But beware, some people can experience side effects like fatigue, nausea, or mild anxiety. And because everyone’s brain chemistry is unique, results can vary widely.

Bottom Line

Curious? Give it a try. Mushroom coffee’s lower caffeine and earthy vibe make it an interesting option for coffee lovers. But if you’re on meds or have a health condition, maybe check with your doc first - just to be safe. Microdosing has a rich history and some promising effects, but it's still a personal journey.
